Battle of the Books Club

Students read books from a list established by the state Battle of the Books committee and then compete in quiz-bowl-style tournaments to test their knowledge of these books. Battle of the Books is used to motivate middle school students to read books from a wide variety of genres. The team is made up of 12 student’s grades 6 through 8.

Forensics

All interested students may try out for forensics by memorizing parts of a speech. There are several areas of competition:• Storytelling • Duo • Original oratory • Extemporaneous • Humorous interpretation

 Math Counts

The MATHCOUNTS Competition Program is a national middle school coaching and competitive mathematics program that promotes mathematics achievement through a series of fun and engaging “bee” style contests. http://mathcounts.org/

Boys and Girls Club at SLMS

Club Bronco is an extension of the Boys & Girls Club. This program is absolutely free for all SLMS students. Programs include Robotics Lab, Power Hour, Step Team, and Recreation. Meetings are held after-school according to the following schedule:

Monday (3:45 – 7:00 p.m.)
Tuesday (3:45 – 7:00 p.m.)
Wednesday (3:45 – 7:00 p.m.)
Thursday (3:45 – 7:00 p.m.)
Friday (Closed)

Quiz Bowl

Quiz Bowl is a game in which teams compete to answer questions from all areas of knowledge including history, literature, science, fine arts, current events, sports and popular culture.

FBLA

Future Business Leaders of America is a career and technical student organization that gives students an opportunity to enhance their business knowledge.  In addition, students participate in school and community service projects, leadership training workshops, as well as regional and state conferences.
